Corning’s Next-Generation Glass Will Debut on the Galaxy S25 Edge

You might not think about it that much when buying a smartphone—I don’t, that’s for sure—but the kind of glass your smartphone has can make all the difference between a sigh of relief and an instant bad day. Corning, the company behind the Gorilla Glass that is essentially an Android staple, specializes in glass that’s harder to scratch and crack.

Of course, glass is glass, and glass will always break with enough force, but the tougher it gets, the better. Corning very recently debuted its Gorilla Glass Ceramic, but now, just months later, we know that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, arriving in a few days, will come with the successor to that glass.

The Upcoming Galaxy S25 Edge Will Come with Gorilla Glass Armor 2

I’ve had my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra for nearly three years at this point, and at no time has it had a screen protector on it. I’m not saying this to boast, because I simply prefer the feel and look of a naked display—I do have it in a case most of the time, though. The phone has dropped before, probably once or twice, and each time, the screen comes out of it without any damage. In those moments, I know Corning is to thank for that.

Corning specializes in reinforced glass and is best known for its technology being a major part of modern smartphones, whether you’re talking about the front or the back glass. Its latest version out in the wild is Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic, which I think you’ll only find on the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra. Yet, despite not having even gone fully mainstream, the company has moved on to the next iteration.

Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 is on the scene now, and the first phone that will launch with it will be the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, coming out in a few days. This is what Corning calls glass ceramic, as opposed to aluminosilicate glass, and it is meant to be several times tougher. According to Corning, Gorilla Glass Ceramic has:

  • Better drop resistance; capable of withstanding 10 face-down one-meter drops onto an asphalt-like surface
  • High resistance to scratches
  • High strength retention even after extended use

Samsung Will Bring Titanium as Well, for Extra Toughness

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge will feature Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 to protect the screen (and likely a cheaper variant to protect the back panel), but the focus on durability does not stop there.

If the colorways are anything to go by, the device will very likely have a titanium frame. It’s not the first time we’ll see that in the Samsung universe, as the S25 Ultra also has a titanium frame. Titanium is a stronger material than aluminum, so it’ll help the upcoming slim phone withstand drops better.

I’m not a big fan of the idea of a device that sacrifices certain specs in the name of being sleek, but Samsung seems to like that a lot. The Galaxy S25 Edge is likely to be a looker, but remember that it will cost more than the S25+ and less than the S25 Ultra. Is that worth it to you for the specs below, especially compared to the cheaper Galaxy S25+? Let us know in the comments.
