Motorola is about to enter the book-style foldable market for the first time with the Razr Fold. A trusted leaker says it might do so by breaking the pricing status quo. But the catch is that its US reach has been limited. According to Evan Blass, the foldable phone could launch at $1,500 in the country without AT&T support.
Motorola’s first Fold device is $500 cheaper than the Z Fold 7
Large foldables have become luxury devices by default, despite being called gimmicks and having a higher failure probability than slab phones. Motorola’s Razr Fold is the latest to join the growing list with a $1,500 price tag.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which launched in July 2025, starts at $1,999 in the US for the base 256 GB model. The difference in retail price is about $500, undercutting Samsung by a significant margin. We should expect some serious competition, given how buyers are very price sensitive at the high end, especially at this period of inflation.

Of course, that depends heavily on the specs to a value-sensitive audience, especially when it comes to the chipset. Much of it is still a mystery, but we’ll know more by the end of the company’s announcement.
Surprisingly, the same leak that confirmed the phone’s existence also claims that AT&T will drop Motorola phones from its US lineup. They’ll start with the Razr flip series, although it’s unclear why.
Given how foldables have come to rely heavily on carrier financing to sell, losing AT&T would shrink Motorola’s visibility overnight. Foldables sit far above the logical ceiling for phones. Most consumers are comfortable paying outright for budget and midrange phones, and occasionally, base flagship devices.

Once prices cross roughly $1,200, installment payment becomes more reasonable to do. Carriers have always trained consumers to evaluate phones monthly. You could pay as low as $70 monthly to get your dream foldable.
Razr Fold will make an appearance today at CES
Without AT&T, fewer people will encounter the Razr Fold through the easiest buying path. Also, deals will become less generous as carrier trade-ins and bill credits are strongest when all major carriers compete.
If Motorola goes ahead with the launch, the foldable might be the boldest phone yet while simultaneously losing shelf space at one of the biggest US carriers.
The company has already teased the phone in the UK and scheduled a reveal during Lenovo Tech World at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) happening today.
If you didn’t know, Lenovo is the parent company of the phone manufacturer, so it’s not surprising that they’ll be at the event. It will happen live in Las Vegas at 5PM Pacific Standard Time (PST). Watch the livestream on YouTube.
Ahead of the reveal, Motorola has released a 10-second video on their X account showcasing the device.
As far as we can tell, it’s a book-style foldable with a tall, flat outer shape and sharp edges. The back has a large rectangular camera module near the top corner with four circular cutouts, with the bump being prominent but cleanly integrated into one plate.
