Supplies of Apple’s M4 iPad Pro and 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 chip are running low across Apple Stores. This indicates an imminent refresh and the arrival of the M5 model.

While reports of an M5 iPad Pro refresh have surfaced before, this marks the first indication that Apple could launch an M5 MacBook Pro this year as well.

Base MacBook Pro could get a surprise M5 refresh

Russian YouTubers have already unboxed the M5 iPad Pro on camera. The device will seemingly pack almost no other changes other than a faster M5 chip. With its shipping times and constrained supply, it’s clear that the new iPad Pro will debut within the next few days or early next week.

Surprisingly, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also mentions an imminent refresh for the base MacBook Pro. The model reportedly faces supply shortages, suggesting a new version could be just around the corner. The more powerful Pro chip models of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros are not facing any such supply issues. Reports also indicate that Apple will unveil its M5 refresh only in Q1 2026.

On the base level 14-inch MacBook Pros, custom configurations on the line store are constrained till the end of October. Not the case for the Pro/Max and 16-inch models.

Since the refresh will solely focus on a chip upgrade, Apple could announce the M5 iPad Pro and base MacBook Pro through a press release. The company may unveil both devices simultaneously or follow up with the second announcement a day later.

More Apple products are in the pipeline

Apple is also working on new standalone Mac monitors. But again, they are unlikely to release this year, instead arriving in early 2026.

Thanks to recent leaks, we already have a good idea of what to expect from Apple’s upcoming M5 chip. Early benchmarks suggest a 15–20% jump in CPU performance, with the GPU showing an even more impressive boost.
