The release date for this game is currently unknown

Black Myth: Zhong Kui was announced on the opening night of Gamescom 2025 and met with thunderous applause, with Game Science showing a CG trailer and revealing that the game will be looking at the colossal story of the Chinese folklore figure, Zhong Kui.
A release date or window was not revealed by Game Science, so there’s been plenty of speculation online about when this game might come out. Based on the available information, it’s safe to say it’s in the early stages of development right now. So we’ll have to wait a while before we know more about its release.
The Gamescom announcement noted that Game Science had “kicked off development” on Black Myth: Zhong Kui, with an official FAQ post on the developer site saying that the game was “little more than an empty folder at this stage.”
It’ll likely be quite a while before Black Myth: Zhong Kui releases, so make sure to check back here as this article will be updated when more information becomes available.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui will be a single-player ARPG

As acknowledged in the Gamescom reveal and developer FAQ, Black Myth: Zhong Kui will be a single-player ARPG, following in the footsteps of the previous Black Myth game nicely.
The story will follow the tale of Zhong Kui, a powerful deity from Chinese mythology who holds the power to catch ghouls and vanquish them. This figure has been described in a number of fascinating sagas throughout history, so the story in Black Myth: Zhong Kui seems like it’ll be incredibly engaging.
It seems as if this new game will be distinct from Black Myth: Wukong, too, although that doesn’t mean that the first game will be left in the dust. Game Science noted that “the westward journey won’t end here” when asked about Black Myth: Wukong in the studio FAQ.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is the second game in the Black Myth series, and as announced at Gamescom 2025, it’s currently in the early stages of development. It’ll look at the vibrant story of Zhong Kui and follow the ARPG format, offering fans of Black Myth: Wukong something new and fresh to sink their teeth into.
Ask The Escapist
Based on the Gamescom announcement and FAQ from Game Science, it seems as if Black Myth: Zhong Kui will be a separate story from the first game in the Black Myth series. However, that does’t mean that a crossover with Wukong is out of the question.
At the time of writing, no release date or window information has been made available about Black Myth: Zhong Kui. It’s in the early stages of development.
The second Black Myth game will be available on PC and “all mainstream console platforms,” according to the Game Science team.
The game has been described as a single-player ARPG so far, but based on Black Myth: Wukong’s gameplay style, it’s likely that Black Myth: Zhong Kui will (loosely) have Soulslike combat. This article will be updated once more information about this becomes available.
