That’s what she said.
I think it’s safe to say that the Witcher fandom was a bit let down when the previously leaked Project Polaris ended up being a spin-off with an entirely new protagonist, Ciri. However, CD Projekt Red hasn’t forgotten about the mainline game. In fact, they are now claiming that three games are on the way and on schedule.
During an earnings call in late November, the company released a financial report that gave some insight into upcoming development plans. CEO Michael Nowakowski confirmed that he was sticking to a previous timeline that was shared back in 2022: The Witcher 4, 5, and 6 would be released in a six-year period.
When is The Witcher 4 coming out?
The Witcher 4 is expected to be released in late 2027.
About a year ago, the game entered full-scale production. While CDPR has not provided actual release dates for the trilogy, this would mean that The Witcher 4 would be under development for five years by the time it is released in 2027, which aligns with the typical development pattern for AAA titles.
If that’s the case (which, who knows), this would mean The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6 would be coming out between 2028 and 2033. Of course, this is just a guess. And it also means that CD Projekt Red would need to stick to their timeline without any delays or disruptions despite being a bit rushed.
“Yes, that would mean we would plan to have a shorter development time between TW4 and TW5, between TW5 and TW6, and so on,” said Nowakowski.
Hopefully, this doesn’t mean turning to AI to speed up the process. Many large video game publishers are going that route, whether it’s introducing new AI technology that will eventually replace humans (whether that’s the intention or not) or begging employees to quit to make room for AI initiatives.
CD Projekt Red is about to be very, very busy with The Witcher 4, 5, and 6, all the game’s spin-offs, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, a Witcher 1 remake, and a brand new IP that’s being called Project Hadar.
