Yay, finally I was able to pull it off. (PC-)Gaming on a smartphone from whereever I want.

Did it this way:

  1. The smartphone is an f(x)tec Pro¹X with Lineage 22.2. Just a little gadget that I like to tinker with.
  2. The controller is a GuliKit NS09 connected to the Pro¹X via Bluetooth.
  3. I've created a VPN to my home network, where I can access my OpenWRT router (SSH or web interface) and send a WoL (wake on LAN) signal to my gaming PC to launch it.
  4. Then I connected to my gaming PC (again with SSH) and started Sunshine with a script (streaming software, it was a bit tricky to get the script to work).
  5. Now I connected to my gaming PC via Moonlight (the counterpart to Sunshine) from my Pro¹X, started the game I want to play and… play. In the picture you can see my latest purchased game, right after the tutorial.

So I connected a smartphone (no longer the stock Android) to my home network (no longer the default firmware) via the internet to boot up my gaming PC (no longer Windows, but Linux) and play games with a Switch controller (which is used like an XBox controller) connected to the smartphone. Be it Elden Ring, Final Faantasy 14 or, as shown here, Helldivers 2, it has always worked.

As long as the connection is stable, this works amazingly well and I still have to experience some big lags, but I have to admit that I haven't tested it from distances over 50 kilometers yet (in August 2026 I will test it from Spain to Austria). It's basically a Google Stadia (you remember that?), but with no subscription fees, with my own hardware and without the risk of it being turned off (*cough cough*),
