Here are more details about the lawsuit.
Kevin Hunter seeks court intervention to end Wendy Williams’ guardianship, claims report
Wendy Williams’ ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, has filed a massive $250 million lawsuit. He claims that she has been wrongfully treated under a court-appointed guardianship. Filed on June 17 in New York federal court, the lawsuit names 48 defendants, including Williams’ legal guardian Sabrina Morrissey, Judge Lisa Sokoloff, Wells Fargo, her assisted living facility, and several lawyers connected to her case.
The complaint argues that Williams “has been the victim of unrestrained abuse, maltreatment, and fiscal malfeasance.” Hunter and his legal team maintain that Williams’ constitutional rights have been violated. (via PEOPLE)
Hunter argues that Williams is now being isolated from friends and family and has limited access to her own phone. He further states that she is being confined at a Coterie assisted living facility against her will. The former talk show host has been under guardianship since 2022 following Wells Fargo’s concerns over “suspicious activity” in her accounts.
According to the filing, the lawsuit does not aim to terminate the guardianship entirely. However, it demands major changes, including the appointment of a new independent guardian, a full forensic accounting of her finances, the unsealing of court documents, and her release from what is described as “involuntary confinement.”
The lawsuit also asks for substantial compensation of $250 million for damage to Williams’ reputation, emotional distress, and financial losses. Hunter is also seeking to be appointed as Williams’ “next friend,” a legal role that would allow him to act on her behalf.
Hunter’s attorney, LaShawn Thomas, states that Williams may not be fully aware of all the legal specifics. However, they intend to present evidence in court that will support their claims.
