A story of Claude’s challenges in calculating an Accessible Triad Color Harmony
A story of Claude’s challenges in calculating an Accessible Triad Color Harmony.

In this writing, I discuss the challenging journey the Generative AI (Gen. AI) system, Claude, faced with the request to suggest a triad color harmony that passes color deficiency tests. The chatbot tried several color spaces, including a perceptual uniform one, before being prompted to return to a primary painter’s solution. The Gen. AI system learned and acknowledged that calculated mathematical recommendations within a given color space do not guarantee successful color vision solutions for data visualization.

Previously, I examined similar DeepSeek, ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini triad color scheme suggestions. Let’s get started on the Claude story by reviewing the triad color harmony, color deficiencies and text-based GenAI systems.

The Triad Color Harmony:

Color harmony is the process of choosing colors on a color wheel that work well together in the composition of an image. Like concepts in music, these harmonies are based around color combinations on the color wheel that help to provide common guidelines for how color hues will work together. Isaac Newton is credited with creating the color wheel concept when he closed the linear color spectrum into a color circle in the early 1700s. An illustration of his concept is shown below.
